ABOUT CURAÇAO

Home to more than 35 captivating beaches, a diverse heritage spanning 55 different cultures, ‘live and let live’ attitude and unrivaled European architecture; Curaçao remains one of the most exceptional islands of the region. Its capital city, Willemstad – a UNESCO World Heritage site – with its iconic colorful Handelskade backdrop and roster of museums, monuments, flavorful restaurants and shopping, was selected in 2013 as one of the Top 5 Cities in the Caribbean by Conde Nast Traveler’s readers.  Curaçao’s natural beauty, pristine diving and snorkeling sites are a favorite with divers and adventure seekers, and its beaches and idyllic weather, situated on the outer fringes of the Hurricane Belt, has won it further accolade and recognition.

Dare To Explore Marriott Beach Resort and Emerald Casino

Tuesday, March 11th, 2014

The Marriott Curacao Beach Resort & Emerald Casino,

is just a 15 minutes from Hato International.  And a quick 5 minute ride away from our colorful downtown district.

A few quick room tips!

Lower floor rooms are just a few sandy footprints to the beach.  “Resort View” rooms also have terrific ocean views.  If you want day and night live music and celebration noise head to the 2nd floor.  Grab a room on the 3rd floor if you want the quietest area.

Quick pool tip!

Grab your pool towels the night before to use the next morning before 7:00 a.m. to reserve a lounger by the water.  The towel hut opens at 8:00 a.m. and if you wait you may lose a prime spot.

As you head from the pool to the beach, there is a large beach to your left and a more intimate one to your right.   One of the active reefs is just 20 feet from the shoreline.  It’s just perfect for both first time or experienced snorkelers.  Bring your Scuba gear or get outfitted at the on-site sports center.

The Emerald Casino is the only gambling haus offering Craps tables.   If the table is closed you can simply ask the Manager and it will be opened immediately for Resort guests.

Five dining choices include the Portofino with international dishes served inside or on the patio.   The casual-fun Seabreeze Swim Up Bar & Restaurant and the Voila Deli are tasty choices too.    Guests will discover many tempting dining destinations outside the resort as well.

Dare to Explore Marriott Beach Resort and Emerald Casino.

A cool place vacation in Curacao.

Dare To Explore Renaissance Curacao Resort and Casino

Tuesday, March 4th, 2014

Had a chance to hang out for a few days at Renaissance Curacao.

The first thing you notice is that the bright colors on the resort match Willemstad.

And when you are kicking back at the resort you can just walk outside to be in the heart of the island action.

Plus, you are walking distance to Punda and Otrobanda attractions.

They have a saltwater pool that is way more impressive than the freshwater pool.

And they have an infinity pool on the 2nd floor.

The beach bar is surrounded by palm trees and the sandy beach angles down into a saltwater pool.  When you stare at it the water blends with the real ocean in the background.

If staying in touch is important , there is wired and wireless internet on all 4 floors, all 223 rooms, and all 14 suites.   You will also get service in pool and beach areas.

There is a Starbucks off the 2nd floor for your morning (or afternoon) jolt.

There are endless choices for meals on and offsite.

The Blue Lobby Bar is a good launch point for a night on the town.

The Cru Steakhouse is perfect grabbing a steak break at lunch or dinner.

And it has a Casino.

Your luck won’t improve after a few cocktails, but it is a lot of fun…….

You won’t go wrong if you choose the Renaissance……

Dare To Explore Santa Barbara Beach and Golf Resort Curacao

Tuesday, March 4th, 2014

I slipped into the resort to check out the changes since it was a Hyatt.

First and lasting impressions include the visual appeal and the cleanliness

Guest rooms, luxury suites, and spa suites have light earth tone tiles with matching furniture.

Some come with extras like pillow menus, in-room yoga mats, furnished balconies, flat screen plasma tv, and cool locally produced shampoos and soaps.   There’s even an on call Butler option.

You can get comfy in huge lounger poolside at Splash and get food delivered from the grill.

The resort has added plenty of massive loungers, so you shouldn’t need to dash to the pool at 6 a.m. to throw a towel down.

They also have a Marina on-site so divers are all set.

The upgraded Old Quarry Golf Course is just behind the resort.  There is something like 7,000 feet of course to cover.

So you can kick back, dive, golf or float a boat…..

‘Dare To Explore’ Kura Hulanda Lodge and Beach Club

Saturday, March 1st, 2014

I accepted the Dare To Explore Kura Hulanda Lodge and Beach Club to see what’s new under the Curacao sun.

The prior owners of The Lodge lost their financial backing, so GHL purchased and reopened the property under the same familiar name.

Here’s the rundown.

This is a huge 250 acre layout.

Here is a link to the Resort Map so you can follow along.

Let’s pull a James Bond and looking like Halle Berry we stroll out of the ocean and onto Playa Kalki Beach.  There are rooms to your left  and the Watersports and Dive Shop are on your right.

Ahead of you is the Kalki Beach Bar and GrillChristoffel Terrace and Sunset Lounge is a perfect rest stop for a cocktail.

Continuing our exploration we check out the smells coming from the Watamula Restaurant.   You can get a good look at the pool and the children’s playground from here.

Before you reach the lobby you will be go by the Fitness Center, Massage Pavilion, and Business Center.

After you pass the main entrance, lobby, and shop you are just a short walk from the  Garden View rooms and suites.

The tennis courts and Indian caves are quite a distance from lobby.  Grab the details when you first arrive.

Here are some of the changes that I liked.

There is large acreage but the resort has an intimate, small village vibe.

The beach barbecue has been reinstated and seems to be a hit.

The Watamula Restaurant is earning high marks for their ala carte meals.

I stayed in an Ocean View Terrace Suite on the 2nd floor.   Everything in the room was new, clean, and the furniture comfy.

The kitchenette now comes with a 4-chair dining table, range, refrigerator, microwave oven, coffee maker, and toaster.

Cookware, utensils, and dishware were all in great shape.

There is a full bathroom plus an outdoor shower.   The armchairs, tv, desk and king bed in the separate bedroom were all obviously new.

My terrace had 2 big loungers along with a table and chairs.  Enough space to have some friends over.

This is a relaxing resort with an attentive staff.   Lots of divers stay here just for the dive shop and its staff.   You can shore dive right in front of the resort.

Thanks how it looks from here

I think you will like the changes, I did.

‘Dare to Explore’ Lion’s Dive and Beach Resort

Friday, February 28th, 2014

No problem.

I took the Dare to Explore Lion’s Dive and Beach Resort Curacao for one main reason.

I have always loved this place.  It’s bar none the “Sporty Spice” of Curacao resorts.  Let me put a picture in your head.

Blue skies, blue water, a private sandy beach decorated with swaying palms.

Just 5 minutes to historic and party popping Willemstad.  It gets better.  The Seaquarium, Dolphin Academy, and famous Mambo Beach are next to the resort.

The 3 restaurants and bar combos are getting high praise.   The 50 meter pool is a popular spot for relaxing or swimming laps.

You can kick it up a notch by joining the resort sports program or jump into the Body Beach Wellness Club.

Pick your passion.   Are you on a budget or splurging?

Two Bedroom Apartments, Suites and even a Penthouse are available.  There is lodging for the practical person all the way to big spender.

I went practical.

But I did get a tour of the Penthouse.   The “Wow” factors include a 180 degree view of sand, sea, and sunsets from the over-the-top balcony.

Let chat about about the Dive Shop.

People travel to Curacao from all over the planet for the amazing Caribbean dive sites.   Several are on diver’s bucket lists.

Ocean Encounters has been schooling non-divers and offering advanced diving courses forever.

If you don’t dive – learn.  If you do – this is base camp for some awesome underwater fantasies.

Google a few of these buzz words.   The Mushroom Forest, Superior Producer, Tugboat, and Klein Curacao and make sure you click on images.

When you see the magical underwater world, tropical fish, shipwrecks, and living coral you will understand why people are drawn to diving.

Not ready to dive?

Drop by the Seaquarium and Dolphin Academy next to the resort.  You can have thrills without chills.

Instagram pics of you with turtles, sea lions, dolphins and even sharks!

Lots to see and do if you ‘Dare to Explore’ Curacao’s  Lion’s Dive and Beach Resort.
